What Is Custom Screen Printing?
Who Is Custom Screen Printing For?
When Should You Choose Custom Screen Printing?
Why Choose Us for Custom Screen Printing?
Custom screen printing is a professional printing technique used to apply artwork, text, or graphics onto fabric. It works by pushing ink through a fine mesh screen - like a stencil - onto the garment beneath. Each color in your design requires a separate screen, and the ink is applied one layer at a time.
This method is not new. It’s been used for decades for one reason: durability. When done right, screen printing produces bold, vibrant prints that bond into the fabric and hold up over repeated washing. Unlike heat transfers or cheaper alternatives, the ink doesn’t just sit on top - it becomes part of the shirt.
At our shop, screen printing starts with a pre-treatment process. We coat each mesh screen with a light-sensitive emulsion. Your design is then “burned” onto the screen using UV light, creating a precise stencil for that part of the artwork. We repeat this process for each color in your design. For a two-color logo, two screens are prepared. For a six-color design, six screens.
During printing, we load your blank garments onto the press, align the screens one by one, and use a squeegee to press ink through the mesh. The ink only passes through the open areas of the stencil - everywhere else remains untouched.
Once the ink is applied, the shirts are cured using a commercial-grade conveyor dryer. This heat-bonding process ensures the ink fully adheres to the fabric. Once cured, the print won’t peel, crack, or fade under normal wear conditions.
Custom screen printing is best known for:
If you’ve ever owned a professionally printed T-shirt that still looks good years later, it was probably screen printed.
Custom screen printing is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but it’s the ideal choice for certain types of customers and use cases, especially those who value quality, consistency, and longevity.
Here’s who benefits the most from custom screen printing:
Custom screen printing is not just about looks - it’s about function, feel, and trust. The clients choose it because they want printed apparel that lasts and looks the same from the first shirt to the last.
Custom screen printing works best under specific conditions. Here’s when it’s the right fit - and why:
Screen printing isn’t ideal for photo-quality images or low-volume orders with multi-color gradients - that’s where DTG or DTF might make more sense. But if your goal is repeatable, high-impact prints across multiple garments, this is the method to go with.
We’re not just a print shop. We’re a screen printing partner that gets it right from start to finish. Here’s what sets us apart:
You’re not just paying for ink on a shirt. You’re paying for a finished product that reflects your brand, your business, or your event - and we take that seriously.
The cost depends on three things: the number of items, how many colors are in your design, and the type of garment you're printing on. Screen printing becomes more affordable as your order size increases. Single-color prints on standard tees will cost less than multi-color prints on heavyweight hoodies. We’ll give you an instant, transparent quote before you pay - no setup fees or surprise charges.
Our minimum for screen printing is usually 12 pieces per design. This is because each color in your artwork requires a separate screen to be prepared. If you're ordering fewer items or have a complex, full-color design, we may recommend direct-to-garment (DTG) or DTF printing instead.
Typical turnaround is 5 to 7 business days after your mockup is approved and payment is received. Larger orders, multi-color prints, or custom garment requests may take slightly longer. If you're working on a tight timeline, contact us - we can often accommodate rush orders depending on our production schedule.
Screen printing works best on cotton or cotton-blend fabrics. It’s ideal for standard tees, sweatshirts, hoodies, and tote bags. Some synthetic fabrics (like polyester performance shirts) can be printed too, but may require specialty inks or added care during curing. Let us know your fabric type - we’ll guide you accordingly.
Yes. We send you a digital mockup showing your artwork, placement, size, and ink colors before we start production. Nothing gets printed until you’ve approved the proof. You can request changes at this stage if something doesn’t look right.
Vector files are ideal - formats like AI, PDF, or SVG. These ensure clean edges and scalable designs. If you only have a high-resolution PNG or JPG, we can still work with it. We’ll check your file before printing and flag any issues. Our team can also help clean up basic artwork if needed.
